One would think that after writing professionally for over five years, I’d be better able to express myself. But, announcing this, the words just seem so little and so clumsy.
I started YMF Writing Services while pregnant with my youngest daughter. Today, Chloe is a kindergarten kid busily learning to write herself. In the times between then and now, this business and its clients have played such an important part of my life: you have supported me, challenged me, and given me professional focus in the blurry days of early parenthood. For my part, I hope that I reassured you of your talents, encouraged you to reach for more, and played a hand in helping achieve career success. I’ve been privileged to witness clients achieve remarkable feats and, through your support, I’ve accomplished some pretty great things myself. Truly, YMF Writing Services has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, and I will always be grateful for it.
But now is a turning point in my life. I find myself in the fork of two roads: to continue on in happy devotion to my job-hunting clients, or, to chance greater personal fulfillment in creative writing (a much riskier, but undeniably truer, path for me). As someone who’s made a living out of encouraging others to test their professional options, how can I not take my own advice?
And so, effective today, YMF Writing Services is sold. I, Katie Bickell, am no longer owner.
And yet, (oh-so-happily!), YMF will continue on. While I’ll let the new owner introduce herself, I am so pleased to assure you of her abilities. A professional writer, university-level English teacher, and acclaimed novelist (one of my favorites!), she and I have spent recent weeks exploring all things YMF. She is more than capable of meeting the high standards of client care and service this business is known for, and I can’t wait for you to know her better.
You will still be able to contact YMF Writing Services using this Facebook page or the website, ymfwritingservices.ca. You can also email at email@example.com. YMF documents are still on file, and will continue to be, so please feel free to make contact if you’ve lost your document or need an update. Please continue to refer friends and family members; this business means a lot to me, and it means a lot to see it succeed without me.
As for me, I’ll be cheering both YMF and its clients from the sidelines, advising from an unofficial position as needed, and still writing up a storm (though drafting resumes no more).
Again, thank you, everyone, for everything.
All the best,
Katie Bickell, Owner, YMF Writing Services: 2011 – 2016
